Prof med. Andre Mermoud

Professor Andre Mermoud is a world known eye doctor specialized in glaucoma. His international training brought him to South Africa, the USA and India. He settled in Lausanne, Switzerland where he developed the first glaucoma clinic in the university hospital in Lausanne (Jules Gonin Eye Hospital),He then became a professor at the University of Lausanne. In 2007 he joined the Montchoisi clinic and founded the first private glaucoma center in Switzerland. Later in 2014 he created SwissVisio which gowned over 9 years from a single center to 21 centers around Switzerland. He has been the medical director of SwissVisio since his creation. Today he is in charge of more than 70 eye specialists and 150 paramedical staff. Professor Mermoud has a long carrier of scientific researcher. He has been working in the development of new glaucoma surgeries. He has published more than 300 peer-reviewed papers and delivered more than 300 international conferences.

In parallel, Professor Mermoud has been involved in humanitarian work in Africa and India since 1981 when he was a medical student in 2001. He founded the Vision for All Foundation (VFA) who is operating actually in more than 20 countries in the developing world. Lately, Professor Mermoud has founded Swiss Visio International consisting of premium eye hospitals in Africa in order to create funds to support his VFA Foundation. Two major eye hospitals have been created in Rwanda and Senegal. Other projects are expected in the near future in Ivory Coast, Benin, Togo, Egypt, Cameroon and Guinea. Andre Mermoud is the father of 4 children. He is also known as a blues pianist player since he was 8 years old
